Every year more than half a million people take Cambridge examinations in English as a Foreign Language (EFL). They take them for both private and professional reasons. The examinations are run by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) and are recognised by universities, employers and national education authorities in many countries.
There are five levels of examination:
| Level 5 | Advanced | Certificate of Proficiency in English |
| Level 4 | Upper Intermediate | Certificate in Advanced English |
| Level 3 | Intermediate | First Certificate in English |
| Level 2 | Lower Intermediate | Preliminary English Test |
| Level 1 | Elementary | Key English Test |
For people who are interested in using their English for business communication, Cambridge also offers the Business English Certificates (BEC). (See table below).
| Level 4 | Advanced | BEC Advanced |
| Level 3 | Upper Intermediate | BEC Vantage |
| Level 2 | Intermediate | BEC Preliminary |
At English Language Service we prepare students for all of the above examinations. Simply complete our on-line placement test and indicate what examination you would be interested in taking. We will then advise you further.
